A Dozen Dove Wins

The Doves do it again! The Aquadoves competed in the Louisiana State Championship for Division 2 Swimming where we took home our 12th championship title in a row. The trip to Sulfur consisted of mainly swimming but most importantly the lasting bonds and memories created as a team.

The weekend started off on Thursday, November 17, when the Aquadoves left class at 9:00 a.m. for the whole school to send us off under the breezeway. From there, we packed up the bus and headed to Tchefuncta for a quick practice. Coach Richard was the best bus driver ever because he brought us to Starbucks after practice. We had about an hour after that until lunch in Baton Rouge, which was our final stop before Sulphur. We finally arrived in Sulfur at around 4:00 p.m. and had to be ready quickly for dinner at 5:00. When we returned, it was lights out and time to get ready for bed.

The Prelims started on the first day. We woke up at 6:00 a.m. to get to the natatorium for warm-ups and then the meet started at 9:00 a.m. It was so fun watching the team spirit and the girls cheering each other on. All the senior banners were hung up, the girls who were not swimming in the meet timed it, and there was support and encouragement for all the swimmers to do their best. Everyone who swam Friday scored and made it to the Finals on Saturday. After the success, we decided to chill the rest of the day and just hung out in the hotel. We talked, bonded, napped and did homework, and it was a good end to the day. The next morning we woke up to prepare for finals. Everyone was putting her game face on because it was time to take the win. The Aquadoves did swimmingly and pulled out many best times, with state records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. We created a great memory by having everyone so hyped up when they won and everyone hugging after, especially because the 400 relay was our last event for the day. We ended up being the champions of the meet for the 12th year in a row! The trophy was handed out by one of the officials and we went into the gym to take pictures. Then we had a final speech on the bus from our coaches, the seniors were told goodbye and it was time to head home. It was such a fun trip and perfect end to the season!
