Hollywood’s biggest night brought many filmmakers and movie stars to Los Angeles on March 2, 2025, where they graced the red carpet with elegant fashion looks for the 97th Annual Academy Awards. Here are my thoughts on some of the most iconic looks from the night.
My qualifications include: casual fashion lover and film enthusiast.
Mikey Madison in Dior
Best Actress winner Mikey Madison, nominated for her leading role in “Anora,” delivered one of my favorite looks of the night with a simple but flattering silhouette. Dior is known for their luxurious fabrics and feminine aspects which create a sense of classic and graceful elegance. I love the touches of femininity with the dusty pink, the bow, and a chunky necklace to tie it all together. I can’t wait to see more from this rising star!

Elle Fanning in Givenchy
Givenchy’s designs are experimental and creative but still sophisticated. I usually love these types of delicate white looks with black detailing, but this one was not done well in my opinion. I’m not a fan of the bodice’s shape, and the black bow/waistband thing looks unfinished.
Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
One of my favorite things a star can do on the red carpet is pay homage to her character, and that is exactly what Cynthia Erivo did here. The dark green velvet represents Elphaba from Wicked, a role for which she was nominated. I also love the dramatic, dracula-esque silhouette; it really stands out and showcases Erivo’s alluring elegance. The gown’s enduring quality is reflective of Louis Vuitton’s timeless designs.
Ariana Grande in Schiaparelli
This was one of the event’s more whimsical and unconventional looks, typical of Schiaparelli’s designs. I loved how creative it was, and I think it pulls together really well. The structured top mixed with the flowy, sparkly skirt makes for a beautiful ensemble. Grande, nominated for Glinda from Wicked, also chose to honor her character with a blush-pink color.
Timothée Chalamet in Givenchy
I really appreciate this bold look from Timothée Chalamet because I tend to get bored by menswear at red carpet events. This butter yellow take on a classic suit offered an interesting and unexpected surprise from the Best Actor nominee. I would have liked to have seen different shoes, though–perhaps a lighter color to go with the light yellow.
Demi Moore in Giorgio Armani
Armani’s designs, just like Demi Moore herself, transcend trends and stand the test of time with their classic elegance. I love how this gown is so simple, yet still makes a statement with its sparkle. It isn’t anything super out of the box, but you can’t go wrong with a simple, flattering silhouette like this one.
Miley Cyrus in Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen is known for a blend of tradition and innovation. A traditional all-black look like this calls for a variation in texture to spice things up. I love the textured top and the lace gloves, but the skirt looks boring. Classy, but not interesting enough in my book.
Adam Sandler in Aviator Nation
Adam Sandler really brought the elegance with this extravagant number, and everyone was in complete awe. I am just so blown away by the beauty and grace this outfit emulates. It truly captures the timeless simplicity of this year’s Academy Awards fashion looks.
