Every year, American families come together to celebrate Thanksgiving. We make our favorite dishes, put on our best attire, and gather around a big dinner table to eat enough to put us into a food coma for the rest of the night. Something like that could be any other get-together or family gathering, so what makes Thanksgiving special?
The answer? Thanksgiving. Or, to put it more simply, “Giving thanks.” Thanksgiving is not just a day where we come together to eat, it’s a day where we join hands in thanks for everything around us.
But what does it mean to be grateful?
Is it a feeling? A thought? Is there something we must do to earn gratitude? How do we know if we’ve done enough or too little?
Thanks comes in many different forms. It can be about something as big as a person who changed your life or as small as the sunrise that puts a smile on your face each morning. When we pause to take a look at the world around us, it becomes much easier to find things to be thankful for.
For instance, here are some things I’ve been grateful for lately:
Notice how different they are? Some are bigger things, while others are just small things that make me happy. Gratitude can come in the major moments, but it’s there in the minor ones too, so long as you know where to look for it.
So this Thanksgiving, take a look around. See if you can find a few things you’re grateful for.
